Heritage Awareness Program at Qutub Complex

The last few decades have witnessed a steady degradation of our intangible as well as tangible heritage and culture, due to inadequate awareness, neglect, unplanned urbanization and commercialization.
Whereas progress of a nation compels us to continue with development, a systematic instruction on heritage and its management can ensure the safeguard of our heritage.

To make the general public aware and more culturally alive about these tangible remains of the bygone era - The Alumni Association along with the present batches of DIHRM is going to organize a "Heritage Awareness Program" in the premises of Qutub Complex on Saturday, 4th September 2004.

It is an earnest request on behalf of the Alumni Association & Students (DIHRM) for your gracious presence at the occasion and to cover the event in your esteemed News Channel.

Introduction about the Institute:-

The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi has established an autonomous institute fully funded by the Govt. of NCT Delhi called " DELHI INSTITUTE OF HERITAGE RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT " (DIHRM) affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University with the aim to address the contemporary needs of Heritage Management in its totality. This is the only institution of its kind, not only in India but in entire South Asia where study in Archaeology, Conservation and Preservation and Management of Heritage is viewed and undertaken with emphasis on inter-disciplinary approach which includes the tangible and intangible heritage of India and the World.

Goals of D.I.H.R.M :-

Ø To create and involve group of heritage managers, imparting practical theory and research guidance adhering to the modern principles of management, archaeology, art, architecture literary and oral traditions etc.
Ø To undertake multi- disciplinary research in archeology and conservation.
Ø To impart specialization training in preservation and conservation of buildings and individual objects, textile, metal objects, manuscript and paintings etc. with modern scientific methodology.
Ø To train tourist managers who assimilate all this vast knowledge for management and modernization of the heritage.

Aims Of the Alumni Association:-

Ø Conduct lectures and forums with eminent personalities from the field of Archaeology, Conservation, Museology, Arts, and Photography.
Ø Create awareness by encouraging active participation of the people at the site.
Ø Lectures to school students and also site visits, which will enable the students in having a deeper understanding of our cultural heritage.
Ø Organize exhibitions and competitions, which would help in public awareness and cultural enthusiasm.

The Eminent personalities invited for the day include:
Mr. Keshav Chandra (D.C. South West Delhi) - Director, DIHRM
Mr. S.S. Yadav (D.C. South Delhi)
Mr. C.B. Gupta (Senior Technical Restorer, National Museum, New Delhi)
Prof. A.K. Das (Eminent Museologist)

The Schedule of Events on September 4th 2004 is as follows:-

10:30 hrs Heritage Walk from Quila Rai Pitthora
11:00 hrs Reaching Qutub Minar and taking a walk in the complex.
12:00 hrs Lectures to visitors by the students.
12:30 hrs On the spot painting competition.
13:05 hrs Play on Heritage Awareness.
13:35 hrs Rounding the event with a walk in the Qutub Complex.

Also there would be a series of lectures on the following topics by students:
1. Historical background of Qutub Minar.
2. Art and Architecture.
3. Conservation work done till now.
4. Basics of Conservation.
